Ajang penghargaan tertinggi bagi insan perfilman dunia akhirnya kembali digelar pada 24 Januari 2013 (25 Januari di Indonesia). Di Oscar kali ini, 9 film kembali bertarung dalam kategori Best Picture dan berhasil memenangkan the unbeatable, Argo, yang sekaligus menggenapkan Oscar Ben Affleck dan George Clooney menjadi dua buah manusia emas. Tak hanya itu, Christoph Waltz serta Quentin Tarantino juga berhasil menambah koleksi Oscar mereka, melengkapi Oscar mereka sebelumnya. Tapi, tentu tak ada yang mengalahkan Daniel Day-Lewis yang kali ini sukses membawa pulang satu piala lagi, membuatnya menjadi salah satu dari sedikit aktor maupun aktris yang pernah memenangkan 3 Oscar, bersanding dengan Meryl Streep yang juga menyerahkan Oscar ketiganya tersebut.
Di kategori Best Actress, Jennifer Lawrence sukses melenggang ke atas panggung untuk menerima Oscar pertamanya, meski sempat terjatuh di tangga. Sedangkan, Anne Hathaway yang memerankan Fantine juga menjadi sorotan dalam perhelatan Oscar setelah ia memenangkan Best Supporting Actress, juga karena, oh... gaunnya. Jangan lupakan Life of Pi yang berjaya dengan memenangkan 4 penghargaan sekaligus, termasuk kemenangannya yang sedikit mengejutkan dalam kategori Best Director untuk Ang Lee.
