[List] Spirit Awards 2014: The Winners!


Sehari lagi menuju Oscar! Tapi, sebelum ke benar-benar ke puncak sekaligus penutup musim penghargaan, ada Spirit Awards yang digelar tepat sehari sebelum kita melihat Ellen Degeneres membuka Oscar untuk kedua kalinya. Di penghargaan 'Oscar' bagi film-film independen ini, 12 Years a Slave kembali menguasai satu lagi ajang penghargaan, dengan total raihan 5 tropi, termasuk Best Feature dan Best Director. Sekali lagi pula, Cate Blanchett makin mengukuhkan namanya dengan memenangkan penghargaan bagi aktris terbaik tanpa sekalipun kalah dalam Golden Globe, SAG, CCA, BAFTA, Spirit, dan kemungkinan akan kembali naik podium untuk menerima Oscar keduanya. Hal yang serupa juga terjadi pada Matthew McCounaghey yang memenangkan Best Male Lead, meski di BAFTA ia harus mengalah pada Chiwetel Ejiofor. 

Di Best Supporting Male maupun Best Supporting Female, tak ada yang terlalu mengejutkan. Sesuai prediksi, Jared Leto dan Lupita Nyong'o berhasil membawa pulang piala Spirit untuk perannya dalam Dallas Buyers Club dan 12 Years a Slave. Hal yang sama juga tejadi dalam ranah naskah, di mana 12 Years a Slave memenangkan Best Screenplay, sedangkan Nebrasi membawa pulang penghargaan Best First Screenplay. Dan, meski tak dinominasikan untuk Best Foreign Languange Film dalam Oscar karena Prancis tidak memasukkan film ini sebagai official entry-nya, Blue is the Warmest Color yang juga pemenang Palme d'Or dalam Cannes Film Festival ini tetap bisa mengeluarkan senyum kemenangannya dalam Best International Film.
