[List] Academy Awards 2014: the Nominees!


I can see snubs everywhere! Inside Llewyn Davis hampir saja pulang dengan tangan hampa, kalau saja ia tak dinominasikan untuk Best Sound Mixing dan Best Cinematography. Sisanya? Tak ada Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Original Screenplay, hingga Best Director. Berbicara tentang Best Director, kalau tahun lalu Ben Affleck secara mengejutkan tak menjadi salah satu nominator, maka kali ini Paul Greengrass (Captain Phillips) lah yang juga menjadi tumbal. Beralih ke Best Actor, absennya Robert Redford mungkin tak terlalu mengejutkan, karena ia pun absen dalam SAG. Namun, yang paling mengejutkan adalah hilangnya nama Tom Hanks (Captain Phillips) dalam daftar nonimasi tersebut. Tak hanya itu, dalam Best Actress, Emma Thompson (Saving Mr. Banks) yang selama ini diunggulkan dalam kategori Best Actress, nyatanya juga tak hadir dalam daftar. Dalam ranah animasi, meskipun bukanlah tahun yang terlalu baik bagi film animasi, termasuk bagi Pixar, tetap saja Monsters University yang absen tetaplah salah satu kejutan terbesar bagi saya. Duo frontrunners, Stories We Tell serta Blackfish yang juga dianggap sebagian orang bahwa mereka pasti akan mendapat nominasi dalam Best Documentary, ternyata salah besar. Dan, yah, setidaknya ini membuat kesempatan lebar bagi film-film lain untuk bersinar di kategori ini, termasuk my favorite, The Act of Killing.

Kini, mari beralih ke berita bagus. Gravity dan American Hustle, keluar sebagai peraih nominasi terbanyak, yaitu 10 nominasi, termasuk Best Picture, Best Director dan Best Actress. Untuk American Hustle sendiri, Oscar tampaknya memang benar-benar menyayangi David O. Russell, karena setelah setahun lalu ia juga berhasil mendapat seluruh nominasi akting lewat Silver Linings Playbook, tahun ini, American Hustle juga mampu membawa 4 nominasi tersebut. Gravity sendiri, selain sukses di kategori utamanya, ia juga sukses besar dalam kategori teknikal, meraup 7 nominasi, dan kemungkinan besar akan membawa pulang banyak dari kategori teknikal ini. Di belakang Gravity dan American Hustle, ada 12 Years a Slave, yang meraih 9 nominasi, termasuk Best Picture, Best Director, dan seluruh nominasi akting kecuali Best Actress. Masih seputar kabar baik, kejutan besar juga lagi-lagi hadir dalam Oscar kali ini. Ya, siapa sangka bahwa seorang Jonah Hill sekarang adalah 2 kali nominee Oscar? Kabar baik lain yang cukup mengejutkan datang dari Sally Hawkins, yang mendapat nominasi Oscar untuk pertama kalinya berkat perannya dalam Blue Jasmine.
